injection molding of biobased plastics

injection molding of biobased plastics

Triple-c has experience-as one of the few plastic mold companies in china– using bio based plastic in injection molding;

First of all what are bio based plastics ? and why are the better ( for the environment) than normal oil based thermoplastics?

Bio-plastics are made from natural or renewable biological resources instead of Regular used thermoplastics ( such as ABS, PP, PE) oil or fossil based resources.
These renewable resources can be: corn starch, wood chips, vegetable oils food waste..

Nowadays 3 types of bio-plastics can be recognized or classified;

  • those who are bio de grable ,
  • those that are not and
  • oil based thermoplastics that are biodegradable.
    SO please note Not all bioplastics are biodegradable.

One way to make biobased plastics is through fermentation of natural sugars from corn or sugar cane.

Examples of these are furans such as PEF (Poly Ethylene Furanoate) and polylactic acid (Poly LacticAcid: PLA).

PLA is currently the most widely used biobased plastic. As fiber it finds, because of the good moisture management properties, a lot of application in clothing and other soft products such as mattresses. As a plastic it is mainly known as packaging material for food in the form of foils and trays. In addition, it is used for disposables such as disposable cutlery and -tableware. The biodegradability of PLA is attractive in all the examples mentioned, functional and even in choice for the material

decisive property.

  • Typical applications of bioplastics:

    Currently around 1% of all plastics are bio plastics; these can be found mainly in:
    packaging
    disposables

Advantage if bio based plastics;

price stablity ( less dependent on oil price as petro plastics)
